Pontiac city of Michigan State is one of the important places in the Livingston County. The latest census in 2010 reveals that the population is around 12000. Spread across 20 square kilometers, the land-water distribution is 98% and 2 percent respectively. The majority of the land is farm ground. Situated at the banks of Vermilion River, it is a place with great landscapes. The city carries a glorious history of more than two centuries. Available records say that it was laid out way back in 1837. Though the people found the city were not the developers. The city evolved over a period by undergoing several transformations.

The design of Pontiac is one of the most lucrative aspects of it. Centered on the town square, used to represent the good old style of town development because there were no railroads or roads. In the earlier designs, the town square used to be the buzzing place. It is needless to say that the design became obsolete with the infrastructural development. The town of Pontiac was pretty large with ninety-three blocks. The majority of the blocks were divided into eight lots.

Why was it called Pontiac?

Pontiac was a Native American leader whose name was selected to name the newly established town. Though the leader did not visit the place even once, his name became immortal because of this town. Pontiac is situated at the strategic location. It is quite convenient to cross the river from this town. After a few years of establishment, the city showed remarkable growth. Several people migrated to the town, and there was a great boom in industrialization and trading. In fact, the place was considered the best for starting a business.

The rapid phase of improvement continued for more than five decades. The place didn't look back after 1880, and new establishments and buildings changed the skyline of Pontiac.

In the Twentieth century, the city entered another phase of development. The first railroad was built in 1922 and in the same year, the highway passed along Ladd Street. The two modes of transport contributed to the success of the city. Pontiac was serviced by the passenger service of the railroad and it continues even today. 1971 was the year when Amtrak started servicing the transportation of people between two critically important stations St Louis and Chicago. However, Pontiac did not lose the stature of being one of the significant stops. The place has shown tremendous growth in the past, and the pace still continues.

The city serves as the home of the 'Hall of Fame' for Michigan Route. It used to be the Dixie Truckers Home in McLean once upon a time. However, as Dixie changed the ownership; it got relocated to another bigger and better location in Pontiac.

The city offers several exciting opportunities to prosper. It gives several incentives and benefits to the budding entrepreneurs. With readily available resources, welcoming and thriving people, and superb economic incentives; it is the best place to settle down.
